Developing a good bedtime routine

Sleep is essential in ensuring your baby's healthy development. Sleep gives your baby a chance to rest and is also a time for his/her body to grow.

You should develop a daily eating, playing and bedtime routine to encourage your baby to be active during the day and to sleep well at night. Before bedtime, try to avoid any energetic activities. Create a calming environment: dim the lights, make sure the temperature in the room is comfortable, that your baby is not too hot/cold and try not to speak too much. When it comes to bedtime, try to maintain a quiet environment in which your baby can fall asleep. By creating a bedtime routine, your baby will slowly come to recognize when it's time for bed and when it's time for play.

Selecting a suitable diaper can also ensure a good nights' sleep for you and your baby. You should use a diaper which is made from breathable, air-thru materials to keep your baby's skin fresh and one which is super absorbent to ensure that your baby remains dry throughout the night.
Which sleeping position?
In addition to a good bedtime routine, it is also important for your baby to maintain a suitable sleeping position. New born babies aren't able to adjust their own sleeping positions, so it is important for you to help your baby whilst he/she is sleeping. If a baby sleeps lying on his/her back, it may cause choking and/or affect the shape of his/her head. If a baby sleeps on his/her front, it may cause suffocation since his/her nose and mouth can be easily covered by bed clothes or blankets. Sleeping sideways is probably a more advisable position since it should avoid the above potential problems.
Why does my baby sweat whilst sleeping?
You may notice that your baby tends to sweat more than usual whilst he/she is sleeping. This is a common occurrence since sweating enables your baby to get rid of all sorts of toxins that may be present in his/her body. Sweating is also a way for your baby to regulate his/her body temperature during sleep. So as long as you maintain a healthy diet and daily routine for your baby, there should be nothing to worry about.
Why does my baby keep on waking up during the night?
This is common amongst younger babies and should improve as your baby gets older. There are usually a few factors which may prevent your baby from having a good nights' sleep: firstly, it may have to do with his/her sleeping environment. Your baby is unlikely to sleep well if he/she is too cold/hot, if there's not enough fresh air in the room or if it's too bright. Secondly, it may have to do with how your baby is feeling. Your baby may wake up if he/she feels hungry, thirsty or has a wet diaper that needs changing. You should also make sure that he/she is not over-excited before falling asleep. Lastly, if your baby tends to sleep a lot during the day, he/she may well not sleep as deeply or as much during the night.
